List organizational
experience within the MSA-UMD (include positions, responsibilities, and
accomplishments, please be specific, outlining in detail what you individually
did/accomplished):
I am an active member in the MSA. I have attended events such as IAW as well as
Unity in Diversity, where I recited Qur'an to open the night. I recently started
the MSA weekly halaqa and plan on continuing it inshallah.
List work/volunteer experience (include positions, responsibilities
and accomplishments in other organizations on or off campus)
Work: Abercrombie and Fitch - Impact Team, Dar Al-Huda - Teacher's Assistant
Volunteer: St. Joseph Mercy Oakland - ER volunteer
What are your organizational strengths? Weaknesses?
I am an organized person and am able to organize people.
How do you cope and work under pressure (please answer in full
thoughts/sentences providing real-life examples/situations)?
I do not break under pressure. I take it as a challenge. I have had to work
early morning shifts (at A&F) where I only had 2-3 hours before opening and I
had to clean, restock the floor, and rearrange shelves.
How well do you multi task (please answer in full thoughts/sentences providing
real-life examples/situations)?
I am able to multitask well. For 3 years now, I have had to balance school,
family, friends, a job, and volunteering so that each got its full right; and I
believe I have done it well.
How do you deal with criticism (please answer in full thoughts/sentences
providing real-life examples/situations)?
I will be able to take it and change whatever i need to so that I can grow, and
people can be happy. If it is harsh and offensive criticism, I shall simply walk
away from the situation so as to avoid argument.
What will your schedule look like in the 2010-2011 school year? How many hours
can you dedicate to the MSA if you are elected? List any external factors such
as parents, school, or work that might inhibit your work.
I can dedicate the necessary time to the MSA. I don't know exactly my schedule,
but I will relay it to the current Executive Board as soon as i know.
What does MSA mean to you? Why are you getting involved with MSA, other than the
fact that you were nominated?
MSA is the organization that keeps me and my identity intact. If I ever
feel lost, I know the MSA is always there to catch me and support me.
What do you feel the MSA executive board positions you are running for entails,
and why do you feel you are capable of holding such a position?
Outreach, in my opinion, is about talking to other organizations, recruiting
members, and getting our name out there. I am involved in other organizations,
and also hold positions within them, so I have the ability to collaborate with
many people. Also, I am in my 3rd year, so I have met many people who I can
recruit to the MSA.
What are the main reasons you want to be elected as an MSA executive board
member? Include future plans you have in respect to the position.
I want to bring a new energy to the MSA and hopefully start more programs that
will attract members and the student body in general.
If you lose the elections, what will your course of action be towards the
organization (please specify)?
I will remain an active member and try to give advice and help to those elected.
If you are elected, will your parent(s) be supportive of your work with the
organization?
Yes, my parents are very supportive of my involvement in MSA. My siblings were
also involved in their respective MSAs at their schools.
What do you feel are the strengths and weaknesses of MSA-UMD?
Strengths: The MSA holds events that many organizations have no chance to. The
MSA is recognized as a strong, successful, moral organization on campus.
Weaknesses: Right now the MSA lacks a solid number of active members besides the
Executive Board. I want and hope to change this problem. Also, although the MSA
puts emphasis and focus on events, I believe there must be an inner, spiritual
experience within MSA. That is the goal of the weekly halaqa.
The MSA is recognized by the school, but many students do not even know it
EXISTS. This we MUST change.
Have you fully read & understood the constitution, have you specifically
understood your duties/responsibilities?
I am in the process of reading the constitution. I do understand my
responsibilities.
How well do you work with others? Give an example of when you led a team and how
you delegated responsibilities and ensure team cohesiveness.
I have worked as a MYNA counselor fro 2 years now, and I am able to work with my
co-counselors as well as the students.
Which Islamic school of thought do you subscribe to, and what is you viewpoint
in regards to other schools of thought?
Maliki (Sunni) school. I believe everyone has the full right to practice and
follow what they want, as long as it does not hinder anyone else's ability to
worship. |
