List organizational experience within the MSA-UMD (include positions, responsibilities, and accomplishments, please be specific, outlining in detail what you individually did/accomplished)

I am new to MSA, so I have not had much interaction with the MSA yet. I have attended the campuses Friday Jumaas regularly throughout the semester though. I hope to increase my involvement in the MSA-UMD community while serving as the IT chair. I plan on doing this by using the website to promote, organization and spread the word about the different events MSA is hosting.

List work/volunteer experience (include positions, responsibilities and accomplishments in other organizations on or off campus)

While in high school, I developed and taught a computer program to increase the MEAP scores of struggling students in the Utica Community district. By doing this I was able to significantly increase the knowledge and scores of 4th and 5th grade students in geometry. I showed the students that by using a computer to learn geometry, learning could be fun! I also volunteer at the Detroit Medical Center.

What are your organizational strengths? Weaknesses?

I believe that I can work well with other people and bring fresh new ideas to the table. I can also be creative and I have extensive experience using computers. I believe that I can use technology to spread the word about MSA. However, I do occasionally procrastinate. Inshallah I believe that if I previously plan my responsibilities ahead of time I can minimize procrastination.

How do you cope and work under pressure (please answer in full thoughts/sentences providing real-life examples/situations)?

To be completely honest, at first I have a hard time working under stress. However, I am well aware of this and to alleviate this problem, I try to plan my activities ahead of time and stick to that schedule. I focus on one thing at a time and slowly but surely finish my tasks no matter how much work it is or how little time I have.

How well do you multi task (please answer in full thoughts/sentences providing real-life examples/situations)?

I believe that one of my strengths is multi-tasking. I believe this is because I have extensive practice multi-tasking simply by being in school. My schedule usually consists of multiple science classes and I am constantly studying for multiple subjects in a small window of time. I believe I can bring this skill to MSA and treat the IT position as academic class.

How do you deal with criticism (please answer in full thoughts/sentences providing real-life examples/situations)?

I think taking criticism is part of becoming a better person. As human beings, we think of ourselves as invincible and in our eyes we can never do anything wrong. I believe that criticism is a way for us to see our selves in a different light and correct our wrong doings. I use criticism to correct my faults and I never take offense to it. After all, who better to judge us than our peers?

What will your schedule look like in the 2010-2011 school year? How many hours can you dedicate to the MSA if you are elected? List any external factors such as parents, school, or work that might inhibit your work.
When planning my schedule for next semester, I took account of the MSA time commitment. Also, I do not work. Therefore, inshallah nothing will inhibit my commitment with MSA.

What does MSA mean to you? Why are you getting involved with MSA, other than the fact that you were nominated?

MSA to me is a respectable group that aims to educate and spread Islamic awareness. I believe MSA is a good way for people of many faiths to interact and share ideas. I would like to be part of MSA because I would like to be more involved in the community. I believe that we all have been blessed (Mashallah) with a lot and the least we can do is give back to a community that has offered us so much.

What do you feel the MSA executive board positions you are running for entails, and why do you feel you are capable of holding such a position?

The MSA executive board position of IT first and foremost entails extensive computer experience. I was vice-president of my computer programming club in high school, and I have a solid background in web design and editing, Adobe Photoshop, and server maintenance. I believe that the MSA website is the face of MSA for the rest of the world to see, thus it must be kept up do date and immaculate. Also, I believe that cooperation and patience is also very important aspect of the IT position. Part of this job, as I understand it, is planning events. Inevitably there will be clashes of ideas. I believe that in order to work through these clashes, individuals must possess the virtues of patience and cooperation.

Include future plans you have in respect to the position.

I will try Inshallah, to spread the word of MSA with the MSA website. I plan to use the website to advertise events and try to get a higher rate of attendance. Also, I believe that students today are very proficient with technology. I believe we can use this to our advantages. Many individuals use their phones to check their emails and browse the web. I believe by using emails and website advertisements, we can make MSA a larger and stronger organization.

If you are elected, will your parent(s) be supportive of your work with the organization?

Yes, my parents support me in all my efforts. They too believe being active in the community is essential.

What do you feel are the strengths and weaknesses of MSA-UMD?

I feel that MSA needs to be more up to date with their technology. I believe that we can do this by updating the website weekly, and use it as a tool to expand our horizons.

Have you fully read & understood the constitution, have you specifically understood your duties/responsibilities?

Yes, I have fully understood my responsibilities.

How well do you work with others? Give an example of when you led a team and how you delegated responsibilities and ensure team cohesiveness.

I believe that I obtain the ability to work well with others. I am creative and along with all the other talent on MSA, I believe that we will make a great team.

Which Islamic school of thought do you subscribe to, and what is you viewpoint in regards to other schools of thought?

I am personally a Sunni Muslim that believes in the Hanafi school of thought. However, I believe that the others schools of thought are only a minor deviation from my school of thought, or vice versa. I believe that unity is very important and part of unity is accepting other’s beliefs.
