List Organizational
Experience within the MSA-UMD (include positions, responsibilities, and
accomplishments, please be specific, outlining in
detail what you individually did/accomplished):
I have been a member with
the MSA for about three months. This will be the first position that I take
because I had some time constraints previously.
List Work/Volunteer Experience (include positions, responsibilities
and accomplishments in other organizations on or off campus)
I did 20 hours of volunteer
at Henry Ford Wyandotte hospital. I did 30 hours at Dr. McNamara’s orthodontist
office. I have also tutored small children in swimming, and I have helped the
Ann Arbor Muslim community.
I am currently being
trained to be an UMD Orientation leader. I also work in a pathology lab at the
University of Michigan – Ann Arbor.
What are your organizational strengths? Weaknesses?
I am a responsible person
who always finishes his work on time. I also cope really well with people, and I
enjoy making people have a good time when we are doing serious work. I believe
that work should never be boring, but I also find that work is an important
place where people present a personal image.
How do you cope and work under pressure (please answer in full
thoughts/sentences providing real-life examples/situations)?
For the most part I can
cope reasonably well under pressure. I find that I work harder when people are
pressuring me because I like to impress the people who don’t think I can handle
something. An example would be at the lab I work at. I was recently running an
experiment that my boss thought was too complicated for me, his boss though
thought that I could handle it. My boss kept pressuring me not to make any
mistakes; in the end I produced good results.
How well do you multi task (please answer in full thoughts/sentences providing
real-life example
es/situations)?
I am good at multi tasking.
This semester I am currently juggling 5 different things at the same time. One
of these things is school, and Alhamdulillah I am receiving A’s in my classes. I
also play Judo, and last week was state championship where I received third
place in my weight class. I also work at a lab where I am producing good
results. In my orientation leader training I am excelling. As for MSA I am
trying to get more involved, so I cannot claim anything there.
How do you deal with criticism (please answer in full thoughts/sentences
providing real-life examples/situations)?
For the most part I can
deal with criticism quite well – except in extreme situations where people are
deliberately trying to put me down so I can fail. An example for this situation
is the same example presented earlier. In the lab, my boss was criticizing my
ability; I overcame it and was able to produce good results.
What will your schedule look like in the 2008-2009 school year? How many
hours can you dedicate to the MSA if you are elected? List any
external factors such as parents, school, or work that might inhibit your
work.
At the moment I am not sure
how my schedule will look next year, but I will be taking between 14 – 16
credits. The only outside factor that might affect me will be school.
What does MSA mean to you? Why are you getting involved with MSA, other than the
fact that you were nominated?
MSA is to me a community
that I feel I can share a common bond with all of its members. I find it
important to be able to find a niche wherever I go. At this university, I have
found the MSA and I think that it will be a good experience. I am getting
involved in the MSA because I want to change stereotypes that are presented by
the media about the Muslimeen.
What do you feel the MSA executive board positions you are running for entails,
and why do you feel you are capable of holding such a position?
Seeing as I am running for the brother hood position, I believe that the most
important characteristic that the candidate should have responsibility. I feel
that I am capable to run for this position because I am responsible and I for
the most part always produce good results.
What are the main reasons you want to be elected as an MSA executive board
member? Include future plans you have in respect to the position.
I want to be elected to
this position because I want to help out. I feel that I can do the most good at
the moment by attempting to change the current image of Islam, and how people
perceive our actions. My main goal, if I accomplish nothing else, is to draw
more muslimeen and to also draw more Non – Muslims to the organization.
If you lose the elections, what will your course of action be towards the
organization (please specify)?
Inshallah, I would like to
continue participating in the MSA by supporting the candidate who doe win and by
placing all my qualities to their assistance.
If you are elected, will your parent(s) be supportive of your work with the
organization?
Yes, my parents will support what I do and they will not present an obstacle.
What do you feel are the strengths and weaknesses of MSA-UMD?
I feel that the major
strength of the MSA is that they are a well-knit community that tries to make
campus life better for the Muslims. I feel that their greatest weakness is the
lack of participation in the campus by the Muslims. Inshallah we will change
that.
Have you fully read & understood the constitution, have you specifically
understood your duties/responsibilities?
Yes, I feel that I have understood everything that my position entails.
How well do you work with others? Give an example of when you led a team and
how you delegated responsibilities and ensure team cohesiveness.
Alhamdulillah, I work well
with a team. From past experiences in team work, I usually take the lead and
direct people, and I work really hard to make sure people agree and work well
with each other. An example was back in high school and we were working in the
School news letter. I was the editor for the organization, and Alhamdulillah we
raised more money than any other organization in the school.
Which Islamic school of thought do you subscribe to, and what is you viewpoint
in regards to other schools of thought?
I am Sunni, and I follow
the Shafi’ee Madhab. I take in all other schools of thought with an open mind,
and I do not judge people by their beliefs, rather by their actions. |
