MSA-UMD Elections 2008 - Candidates

Samad Mohammed
On-Campus Brotherhood

List Organizational Experience within the MSA-UMD (Include positions, responsibilities, and accomplishments, please be specific, outlining in detail what you individually did/accomplished):

I was mostly an active member in attending meetings, multiple community services,
socials, dinners, and halaqas. The most I have done at these events is volunteer with
setting up and cleaning.

List Work/Volunteer Experience (Include positions, responsibilities, and accomplishments in other organizations on or off campus)

I have gone to multiple community services that were hosted by MSA and UMD. Some including Blight Busters, Habitat for Humanity, and The MLK awareness day.

What are your organizational strengths? Weaknesses?

I like to keep things in specific order and in a personal organizational fashion. Sometimes my room gets messy.

How do you cope and work under pressure? (Please answer in full thoughts/sentences  providing real-life examples/situations)

I work relatively well under pressure. As an employee at Helping Hand, things can get very hectic at times with multiple donations coming in and various orphans that need sponsoring. Everyone has to have ice in their veins in order to pull through and I certainly do.

How well do you multi task? (Please answer in full thoughts/sentences providing real-life examples/situations)

I can multi task very well as i have been able to balance school , work, and volunteering
for my undergraduate career.

How do you deal with criticism? (Please answer in full thoughts/sentences providing
real-life examples/situations)

I get yelled at at work, but I use the criticism in a positive was to improve my job performance.

What will your schedule look like in the 2008-2009 school year? How many hours can you dedicate to the MSA if you are elected? List any external factors such as parents, school, or work that might inhibit your work.

I should be able to put in adequate hours to get my job done for MSA

What does MSA mean to you? Why are you getting involved with MSA, other than the fact that you were nominated?

MSA is a place where muslims can come and meet others who are just like them. It is almost like a fraternity as life long friend ships can be made and bonds between people are strengthened. I feel that the MSA has diminished on the campus in providing students the ability to come and meet other people. I want to make the MSA into the strong organization it was a few years ago.

What do you feel the MSA executive board positions you are running for entails, and why do you feel you are capable of holding such a position?

I feel that The Brotherhood position requires a person who gets along well with other people which is what the position requires.

What are the main reasons you want to be elected as an MSA executive board member? Include future plans you have in respect to the position.

I want to bring the MSA back to the social power that it used to be.

If you lose the elections, what will your course of action be towards the organization (please specify)?

I will still help as I have been these past years...as an active member.

If you are elected, will your parent(s) be supportive of your work with the organization?

Yes they will

What do you feel are the strengths and weaknesses of MSA-UMD?

It is a very strong organization that is lacking membership participation

Have you fully read & understood the constitution, have you specifically understood your duties/responsibilities?

 Kind of

How well do you work with others? Give an example of when you led a team and how you delegated responsibilities and ensure team cohesiveness.

I work well with others. An example was as a member of the MSA flag football team

16.  Which Islamic school of thought do you subscribe to, and what is your viewpoint in
regards to other schools of thought?

Hadith Of The Week

Volume 3, Book 31, Number 215:

Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri:

(who fought in twelve Ghazawat in the company of the Prophet). I heard four things from the Prophet and they won my admiration. He said;

1. "No lady should travel on a journey of two days except with her husband or a Dhi-Mahram;

2. "No fasting is permissible on the two days of Id-ul-Fitr and 'Id-ul-Adha;

3. "No prayer (may be offered) after the morning compulsory prayer until the sun rises; and no prayer after the 'Asr prayer till the sun sets;

4. "One should travel only for visiting three Masajid (Mosques): Masjid-ul-Haram (Mecca), Masjid-ul-Aqsa (Jerusalem), and this (my) Mosque (at Medina)."
