Executive Board Meeting
Conference Call

Present: Ramy, Zeshahn, Shan, Ayman, Maher, Hodhaifa, Nousseiba, Hany and Oussama

Absent: Rania

 

1.      Opening Du'a by Ramy

 

2.      Meeting Cancellation

§         The reason why it was canceled last Monday was because Ramy had an exam and it would be hard to run a meeting and have an exam right after it.

§         In the past year people were allowed to miss the meeting if they had an exam that was right after a meeting. Ramy asked for everyone’s input on it.

§         Zeshahn – the person should be excused from the meeting if they have an exam after it.

§         Hodhaifa – Excuse them on the day of

§         Nousseiba – day of the exam they should be excused

§         Maher – depending on exam time. The person should attempt to be there for half an hours or so. This is so that they can give their updates and be updated. Also on how important the meeting is.

§         Shan – support what Maher said. Since they know ahead of time their exam schedule they should notify Ramy or Zeshahn about it. Also don’t abuse it.

§         Ayman – agree with what Maher said

§         Ramy – apologizes for cancelling the meeting. Please notify a week before about your exam.

 

3.      Finance

§         Unity in Diversity Reservation

·         Ford Performing Arts Center isn’t giving a discount to the group so contacted the mayor’s office to get it

·         The mayor’s office will talk to the mayor and let us know if it’s been approved or not.

·         The mayor’s office will send a letter to the Ford Performing Arts Center it has been approved.

§         Picnic – nothing yet from the other 2 organizations about the money

§         Pledges - ??

 

4.      Education

§         Got some more emails from speakers – rejections.

·         Ingrid Matson – Rejection

·         Imam Salieh - maybe

§         So far we have September 13, and October 11. Looking for someone for end of September

§         By Monday – going to have called every speaker from the speaker list.

§         Try getting speakers from IAU

 

5.      Outreach

§         Jummah

·         Sent out email about Jummah last week, about it being suspended

·         For the fall semester going to have some speakers from IAU

·         Try to get more scholars then student khatibs. Maybe once a month a student

§         Islamic Awareness Week

·         Talking to people and loking at MSAzone for ideas.

·         MSA National making a package for it. Will contact them to see how long it will be for that package to be completed. Checking out the website.

·         Need to get a rough draft made to know what’s going on with the week

 

6.      Public Relations

§         For the Unity Dinner getting ideas for fliers but needs a theme to work off of.

§         Loaded all the pictures

§         Will start to work on a t-shirt design – not going to pick a color because it depends on what the design looks like

§         Rania needs to put the survey up so that people can vote if they want a t-shirt, long sleeve shirt, hoodie or hat

§         Will work with others for ideas and the design of the shirt

 

7.      On-Campus

§         Community Service

·         Having an upcoming community service.

¨        MYA is happy to have us.

¨        Need to work out the date

¨        What we will be doing is getting ready for the start of the school – need to double check on that.

¨        Nousseiba will hear back from them by Monday

¨        Need to find out how many people can come – find a back up if this doesn’t work out

¨        MYGD would like to join us for our next community service

·         Hodhaifa – Farhan from LIFE was asking if we could go around Dearborn and collect money

·         Could have one in the Masjid by cleaning it up

·         Maher: MSA use to tutor kids once a month a while back

§         Need to come up with a schedule soon come up with actual dates of events, both socials and community serves

 

8.      Concert

§         Any unsold tickets give to Ramy

§         Anyone volunteering should be there by 1:30 – black pants and shirt – semi formal

§         Have a total of 19 volunteers but need 6 more

§         Volunteers will be security and greeters

 

9.      Unity in Diversity

§         OCTOBER 14, 2006

§         Hall has been reserved. Right now working on the 50% discount otherwise have to pay full amount.

§         Purpose: U in D is an important and free event.

·         People will be coming to open their fast

·         Feed 1 person get rewarded now imagine feeding 1500

·         It’s a way to get Islam, Chrisianity and Jews – interfaith dinner. Creating connections with different groups.

§         This is an MSA Event

§         Ous: What to expect – a lot of planning, a lot of people, and either too little food or too much food. This event is not competition between other groups.

§         Need to work on sponsorship

§         Next year if other groups are interested in being part of the dinner then they have to approach MSA.

§         Hodhaifa has a lot of weight on his shoulders – needs to work on sponsorship

§         Ayman’s suggestion: have duties assigned for each person

§         Themes: talking about themes later – last year it was Universal Generosity the year before unsure about.

§         By next meeting – everyone needs to have 2 – 3 themes.

§         Make it catchy and keep in mind that 3 speakers of different faiths need to talk about it

§         Should contact the press for publicity.

 

10. MISC

§         Zeshahn needs to fill out the paper work to make Farhan the official Advisor.
