Executive Board Meeting

Start: 5:40 pm - End: 8:00 pm

 

Present: Ramy, Zeshahn, Hany, Nousseiba, Ayman, Hodhaifa, Maher, Shan, Rania, Bilal Dabaja, Hassan Baydoun, Chadi, Tarek Baydoun, 2 General Committee Memebers, Nawal, Salmiyeh, Houda

 

1.      Opening Du'a by Zeshahn

 

2.      TMA

§         Future Events

·         Prophets Birthday Event

·         Have halaqas split/joint because MSA had a lot last year. TMA was unable to have that many because of that

·         Have a Hajj event

 

§         Picnic – July 15th. Last year MSA Dearborn and Wayne and this year would be happy to have TMA. Planning hasn’t started yet. Have 1 huge meeting between all 3 groups. Attendance more then 120 last year. Shouldn’t go over $900 total. Have a meeting Wednesday June 14th with all three groups.

·         Have the picnic start at 1.

·         Houda will rent out the field. If space not available then it will be Sunday July 16th.

·         Inviting all the MSAs.

·         Activities: Different Sports, inflatable. Zeshahn and Hodhaifa will look into it.

 

§         Ramadan – Suhaib Hanooti and Mohammad Al-Saadi. TMA can get the sponsorship. Make the letters and start sending them out, soon. Cost should be half/half. Suhaib and Mohammad in charge of getting foods and donations.

·         Rooms will be given second week of school.

·         Need to get health licenses and a schedule of what is being served what day.

·         Have 4 people running Ramadan.

¨         2 people in charge of donations and food prices.

¨        1 person responsible for buying supplies – Bilal can get the supplies for pretty cheap.

·         Served Monday –Thursday. Mondays it will be in the FCS

·         Suggestion: have a discussion after dinner.

 

§         Unity in Diversity Dinner

·         Hassan: TMA would like to cosponsor the Unity Dinner with MSA.

·         Ramy: The long term goal for the dinner is to have it in the Cobo Hall. Currently at Ford Performing Arts Center. We need to get creative with the program, don’t want it the same as last year.

¨        MSA is still doing all the planning. TMA could help out by giving money, could also do it like this: they are in charge of one aspect of it.

·         Hassan: We always willing to help out.

·         Ramy: What role do you guys want to have. We want a lot of organizations to be involved. One of our long term goals is to have it at Cobo, have it state recognized and have congress people there.

·         Suggestions for this year:

¨        Having congress people there.

¨        Have it at Cobo.

¨        Having a play or presentation about the Rasool

·         Some Goals:

¨        Building relationships between the Christian Community, Jewish Community and the Muslim Community.

¨        Have a state wide fast. Have the different communities fast.

·         Greenfield Manor: Could fit 1,500 people with no prayer area. With food it would cost $25,000.

·         Ramy: an option is to have it split half and half. Not sure how to split it though.

·         Tarek: bring HFCC on board – had a dinner for 400 people

·         This event coasted MSA nothing.

·         Have it either Friday or Sunday.

This concluded the meeting with the two group’s e-board.

 

3.      Regional Conference Update

§         Food: $2.30 per person. Have to get in

§         Possible Locations:

·         Dearborn Inn

·         Double Tree

·         Hyatt

·         Maybe on Campus

§         If Michigan is chosen – then we need a committee to work on it.

 

4.      Education

§         Al-Maghrib

·         Limited scholarships are available

·         Can pay in 3 installments

§         There will be a meeting for the people coordinating it

 

5.      Brotherhood/Sisterhood

§         Social Ideas

·         Brothers: Flag football tournament. Go-cart. Workout, laser tag

·         Sisters: Party – rent a hall. Ice skating

§         Picnic

·         Ramy will call Wayne

·         Houda renting out the area

·         Ayman and Hany – dealing with meets – look into Bishr, Saad, Haggerty

§         Community Service

·         June 10 Race for the Cure

¨        Breakfast

·         Inviting TMA

 

6.      It

§         Take off the rating from the photo gallery, also reverse the order for the years – recent year first

§         For the computer – when resetting the computer a name is missing – look into it.

 

7.      Finance

§         Pledges

·         Calling people up. Not going to send out a letter to the pledges.

§         Need to update the spreadsheet – the last 10 transactions.

 

8.      Public relations

§         Al-Maghrib

§         Texas Conference

 

9.      Outreach

§         Jummah – Ussama Khalid for this week

§         Orientation - Amal Hassan did the first one

 

10. Misc

§         MSA Members – should we continue it in the summer? Decide restart in the fall.

§         Wayne State’s MSA Cedar Point trip June 9th
