General Body Meeting

Present: Ramy, Maher, Zeshahn, Hany, Awais Alem, Shan, Ayman, Hodhaifa, Nousseiba, Nora Abdullah, Amal Hassan, Asmaa Awaad, Kelly, Aisha Farooqi, Sarah Farooqi, Samar Alqadhi, Eman Ali, Nada Noor, Sharif Aref, Kenan Katranji, Rania and Majid Syed

 

1.      Opening Du'a by Maher

 

2.      Ramadan

§          Asked for everyone’s feed back – nothing wrong with Ramadan iftars

§          Take volunteers to set up and clean up

§          Maybe for sisters have it self serve – would go faster

·          Not for brothers

§          Donations are going well, continue to tell people to donate

 

4.      Outreach

§          Last week went well

§          This week looking for someone

 

5.      Education

§          Brother Ramzi this week

·          Topic: Fasting the Right Way

·          Shan will be advertising, Ayman advertise as well send out an email and fliers

 

6.      Unity in Diversity

§          Advertising

·          Been going well

·          Last week to advertise – go crazy with it

·          Try to do it at Taraweeh and at jummah

¨        IAGD – Shan or Shafi

¨        Canton – Muhi or Amna Karim

¨        ICD – Suhaib Hanooti

¨        ICA – Mohammed Al-saadi

¨        Dix – Nora (give flier as well)

·          Press release – sent out to different news papers.

·          Need to email clubs and orgs list – very important

§          Decorations

·          Table Covers: Blue and Sea Breeze (light blue)

·          Hany ordered flowers - $140

·          Plates, forks, napkins, spoons, serving bowls, foil – Amal will purchase

·          Ice Sculpture – Ayman contact the guy either today or tomorrow

§          Finance

·          Have collected contracts form them all, waiting for checks from a few places

·          Have prayer halls

·          Need to talk to them about setting up the night before

§          Volunteer

·          Positions – greeters, registration, kitchen crew, serving (most volunteers will be here), prayer (4), security – crowd control

·          Will be serving tables when people are praying

·          Want volunteers to show up at 3:30 and if possible earlier

·          Black dress code

·          Will be sending out an email within the next two days

 

7.      Aisha Farooqi’s Idea

§          November 18 (Saturday)– having a dinner, with 2 speakers

§          Kamran Riaz and Dr Imam Fareed – either him otherwise he will refer some people

§          Want a max of 300 people and want to charge

§          Kamran would talk about how difficult it is to live in the western world – gave a similar speech at ISNA

§          Fareed – lost of family values – what Islam has to say about it

§          Want MSA part of this event

§          MSA’s guidelines:

·          Event should be on a Friday instead of a Saturday. Believe that there will be a higher attendance on a Friday

·          Want it on Campus – either the UC or the Fairlane Center (they have nice rooms)

·          There has to be 2 speakers

·          Prefer that the event is free

¨        This can happen through raising funds through sponsorship

§          Targeted audience is – everyone, high school students, college students and adults

§          Event would be around 6 or 7

 

8.      Unity in Diversity

§          Objective

·          To celebrate unity in Islam, unity in interfaiths, in the communities

·          Great Dawah event

·          Ramadan Iftar
