General Body Meeting

§ Will be in April

§ Might have a different venue than previous years.

4. Zainab Salman’s Idea

§ Working with Dean Intensive

· Past 10 years they have had different programs.

· For 2 years now in the Bay area they have had sister’s intensive workshops.

¨ Good turnout with that

§ Would like to have parallel intensive workshops for brothers and sisters on Dearborn campus

· March 1 – March 4

· Confirmed speakers – Zaid Shakir, trying to get Hamza Yousef and have a bunch of sister speakers already lined up

§ Workshops: Fiq Class, Tajweed Class and then main sessions.

§ Program is already taken care of

§ Room Reservation Zeshahn will take care of

· Fairlane Center Building – a bunch of them

· Friday – Sunday 7 am – 9 pm

§ For Hotel – Contact Hind Alemany.

· She was responsible for it for the Central Zone Conference so she has the prices

§ Eboard voted and all supported it.

§ Members are encouraged to help out and let all their friends know about it

5. Education

§ Shafi Ahmed will be the new education chair

§ 3 – 4 Circles – to get more focused topics

§ During Halaqas have people read a hadith and have people read from that

· Would be giving Dawah to ourselves

§ Have alternating dates for Halaqa - Tuesday or Wednesday

§ Record them and post online

6. On Campus

§ Pistons Game – February 2

· Purchases 20 tickets at $22 a ticket

· Will make it a brothers and sisters event – will purchase 15 more tickets

· Emails will be sent out

§ February 1 – Social in the Field House

§ Community Service

· January 15 – MLK Day

¨ All Clubs and Organization come together and do different community service activities

¨ 2 Options for MSA

� Habitat For Humanity – 10 spots available

� Injure Free Coalition – 10 – 15 spots

v Installing extinguishers in homes

¨ Will have separate Registration

¨ Details will be figured out soon and emails will be sent out this weekend

· February 17 – Muslim Community Center in Detroit – Still need to confirm

§ February 28 – Ski Trip

§ March 15 – Film Festival

· March 9 – Deadline for movies. Will preview them before showing

· Suggestion: could have an informative movie on Islam

· Competition for different movie genre

7. Outreach

§ Dawah

· Dawah Table, IAW

· Event in middle of UC Stage

¨ Similar to Geoparty

¨ Need to have it visible for everyone

· Best way to teach people about islam is approach them – assign people to approach others.

· Poetry Slam went well – get people to participate, like non-Muslim. That will make them pay attention to the Islamic stuff going on

· Have people talk about people in Middle East

· US Stage – “Ask a Muslim about Islam”

¨ Have people come to the stage to ask questions

· Dawah workshop

· Personally invite other groups to attend events

· Play with other groups would bring more people

· PR – more by word of mouth – have to have it hyped up

§ Jummah

· Working on khatibs. First 2 weeks of the month khatibs form IAU

· Usama Khalid this week

8. MISC

§ If anyone has anymore ideas, comments or concerns send an email or approach the eboard. Want people to get involved

§ MSA Elections are coming up. Start considering people to run and encourage people as well.
